95 Bulletin Board 1999-2009 | |
After six weeks, the replacement of CKS twice, the replacement of throttle body and the replacement of a DIC Carmine returned my SE wagon, 2001 6 cyl after rethinking and deciding not to act on his theory that I either had head gasket failure or a cracked cylinder . He suggested I purchase another DIC on the advice of his friend, a mechanic who works for the SAAB dealer, and I was prepared to do so though one was brand new and the other only a year old. I called Dean at Eeuroparts, told him the story, and he said it was highly unlikely I needed another DIC. He asked me if Carmine was using dielectric grease on the DIC when reinstalling. If not, he said, it could produce the misfire code, the rough idle and the starting difficulty that had been plaguing me all this time. I knew, having watched the process often, that Carmine did not use the grease upon reinstalling the DIC so I asked him do so. He called me back in twenty minutes and told me the car was ready. I drove it home this afternoon without incident. New DIC's come pre lubed but I carried mine in the spare tire compartment for a year before it was installed. I'd wrapped it in a t-shirt and that may have removed the grease to the extent that the part was unable to do its job properly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but, no matter what, I'm buying myself some of that grease. Posts in this Thread:
