Fuel Pump Internal Plastic Line Re-use?

OK, so my used replacement fuel pump quit after about 1 year and I just didn't get around to ordering a new Bosch/Walbro electric pump/motor as the eventual backup. So, it's now waiting at my local Advance Auto Parts for pickup tonight. My question is how can I remove and re-attach the internal plastic line to the barbed fitting of the new fuel pump? I see from other posts that the same type of plastic fuel line is used to connect to the L shaped fuel line fittings outside of the fuel pump assembly and that the pipe is not heat shrink plastic, but needs to be attached without heat. OK, maybe you cut off the existing end stuck on the barbed fitting, but there doeesn't seem to be enough length left on the internal piping to make a new connection if you cut it. Can you heat it with a heat gun and then use SS clamps for reconnection to make it tight again? One of the replacement kits seems to include a pre-molded rubber hose for this internal reconnection. Anybody have their solution to offer?
Thanx,
Kirk D
