What do you mean by "depressing the neutral position switch"? Do you mean you must depress the key blade sized button next to the shifter? If so, this would point to either a bad battery or a bad brake interlock electrical solenoid (it makes the normal loud click or clunk when depressing the brake pedal prior to starting).
