Somewhere I took some photos of that... I should post them... anyway, there is a bit in behind the fender liner that collects road dirt there, and clogs up + holds water. rusts from the inside out. clean all the dirt out + spray with rust proofing (creeping oil like Rustcheck red stuff). I think if one did that annually, this would be a non-issue...

Our 2004 looks almost perfect there + one side seems to still be 100% good. But the other was all clogged up + I was amazed the amount of rust I dug out, considering the outside looks pretty much perfect from the outside (you'd hardly tell there was even a tiny bubble forming under the paint).
