1999 I4 Wagon Airbox Noises After Key Off and Out.

While working under the passenger dash doing other repairs, after the car is shut off with keys out, there is a noise coming from the air box. There is a motor running and making a groaning / farting sound (like plastic on plastic) and when I unplug the red with white and the green with white connector on the top of the air box where the cabin filter goes in the noise stops. This connector is not the Saab type connector but a two conductor black connector.

There are three other Saab connectors to from this connector to the firewall.

Any clues on what this is and why it is running????
