Well, this is harder than I thought it would be. My Wife asked me what I want for my 60th Birthday coming up? A new car would be nice. I love my SAAB 9-5 that I've been driving for 10.5 years but can't buy a newer SAAB today that I like so we went car shopping. I drove the high line Korean entries, Genesis Sedan and KIA K-900. They were the most impressive of all. Dead silent down the road and comfortable but seemed BIG. Drove a 335i BMW which I liked but seems like a lot of BMW drivers are very rude around here plus the mechanics said they need frequent servicing/repairs. Didn't like the Acura's except the new RLX was nice. So we went and drove the Lexis IS-250 in which I found really under powered. Then we drove the IS-350 that was one year old and certified for $41K. Very nice and had every option. Too much $$$$$ however. Anyway, we bought a 2014 Lexus GS 350 AWD F-Sport. The Lexus has lots of road noise in which I did not expect but accept it. Has the 40 series tires which can't help either. Went back and forth on to buy or not to buy? The car was on their lot for 55 days and was destined for the Auction after day 60 so we got it for $7000 below KBB. They looked up the SAAB in KBB and offered us $453. We didn't let them have the SAAB which is in very good condition and only has 134K miles on it.
So the Lexus: I don't like the numb feel of the steering on the Lexus, the seats are not as comfy as my SAAB and the Lexus even has the optional 16-way drivers seat. The Xenon headlights on the Lexus are not self leveling like the SAAB's. I had no idea how well the SAAB's headlights worked until driving the Lexus and every bump causes the Xenon beams to bounce with the car's motion. The Lexus seems really quick as it has a 306HP/277FT pounds torque engine. I drove it through the twisty roads and it corners very well. First tank of gas is showing 15.9 MPG so far commuting and easy driving. It's got an appetite for fuel. SAAB was getting 19-20 commuting and often 30MPG on highway (V6). We didn't get all the fancy packages on the Lexus since it was used so no radar cruise or accident avoidance. No Mark Levinson Sound. But nicely equipped nevertheless. The original window sticker was $60,107. Got a certified warranty until 6/2020 and optional warranty to 6/2025 for additional $3025. Haven't decided on extended warranty yet. I do know the Lexus is expensive for parts. There's some metal trim on the dash only on the F-Sport package and there is a small dent on the panel above the glove box. That piece of trim installed is $585. Crazy. I may need to sell the SAAB because no place to store it. I drove the SAAB today leaving the Lexus home. Damn that SAAB is nice. Lexus has lots of cool stuff too. 12.3 inch screen for all kinds of settings and navigation. XM radio will be nice when I get it subscribed. Anyway, I may not be on this board as much but truly appreciate everyone here. I've received a lot of assistance and tips here. I have so many just-in-case parts for the SAAB. New front rotors and pads, timing belt tool kit, oil, filters, starter motor, etc. If I sell it, someone will get lots of parts.
Don't shoot me for buying a Lexus. It could be a mistake? Hope not. A very nicely assembled vehicle.
