Razor is useful for getting hoses off especially at the heater core; just one cut usually does it. You want to leave the the electrical plug connected and cap off the vacuum lines. I think the longer hose from engine goes to upper opening on heater core and the smaller hose on pipe below thermostat goes to the lower opening. Otherwise, exorcise it like the demon that it is and be sure to stomp on it until it ceases to breathe. More info, just google "eliminate heater bypass valve"
