Perhaps a Mackay CH3881 heater bypass workaround

I have been posting about finding the above HPV hose bypass, and have not been able to find. I have 3 2005 9-5 Aero wagons, and really like tohave spare parts to fix common problems. After much looking could not find the Mackay or similar. Since I have the part I studied it and think the longer shaped hose seems the same as the Saab 4757126. The shorter hose is fairly straight. So I bought standard Gates heater hose #28418 which has a 3/4inch interior and 1 inch external diameter. This is a bit lighter built than the Mackay which is the same internal diameter but about 1/16 to 1/8 in thicker. I think both are 1 ply. The length of the lower hose is aprox. 13 inches, and I paid less than a dollar for 14in. With the generic longer heater hose avail from eEuro the two add up to less than $12.
Has anyoone done this? Is there a better quality hose I should consider?
By the way, my on and off again leak is no more. Think I must of poured some antifreeze in the overflow hose when I was topping off the reservoir. It has made me anxious enough to plan on doing this when the weather gets better even though this bypass valve has only 30,000 miles in it. These cold weather wet repairs are just no fun.....
Thanks for indulging me!
