I've used three types of tools, and you might want to try each, since personal preferences vary:
1) THIN 8 inch Crescent wrench, adjusted just right to slip in and compress the locking tabs so you can pull out. Can similarly use an open end wrench, but I have forgotten which size (15mm ??). The wrench needs to be thin enough.
2) Harbor Freight or other inexpensive "hose pliers" - not the ones to remove hose clamps, but the ones that have the tips bent into a circle to hold a hose. If one gets the very tips on the locking tabs, the tabs can be depressed and the pliers give some leverage to pull out the connector.
3) 90 degree bent needle nose pliers (Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc.). Same idea, but different angles and reach.
Some of the variability here depends on how large your hand is, whether doing from top or bottom, and elevation of car relative to height of mechanic. That's why I ved tried all three.
Hope this helps,
