MLC, the issue with having the oil analyzed every 4-5,000 miles is, it costs me far less to just replace the oil.
And further, whatever is happening may not even clearly manifest itself in as little as 4,000 miles of use, when tested.
I used to drop an oil pan on a '69 Chrysler with 60,000 miles and find 3 handfuls of ash, where oil was supposed to be. This doesn't happen anymore.
I'm glad Neil admits he is a fanatic. The Manufacturer of the product suggest a 20K change and I suggest an interval 40% shorter than that - and the replies in this thread speak for themselves.
For Goodness' sake, I just changed the motor oil in my S-2000 with only about 2,500 miles on it, because the synthetic had "timed out" or been in there too many months. I'm not advocating that nobody change their oil. I do recognize something, I think these manufacturers are missing, which is long intervals enable people to fall out of the pattern of regular oil changes and forget all about it sometimes (which is bad) but these ultra short change intervals on a cast iron block motor, with pretty conservative engineering specifications, make no sense.
