When I bought my first Saab in 2009 ('99 SE)Saabnet helped me first with sludge (I installed the PV6 kit) and then with the orange relay.
Since you asked (heat?), I offer this answer: My suspicion is that the burning is due to arcing. There is no mechanical support for the vertical board in the orange hat. All support is from the four solder joints and that is not enough to hold against the vibration forces under the hood. The joints that carry current will have arcing as the board vibrates from a closed joint to one too distant for current to jump the gap.
Prior to solid state ignition, when "points" switched the coil open to cause spark at the spark plug, the points burned from the arcing that took place when just beginning to open the coil primary circuit.
