Hello,
The quality of the alignment has alot todo with the person doing it and how they do it. One common problem is not letting the suspension settle properly before performing the alignment. If you think about how sensitive the rear end sag on a 9-5 is to the alignment think about the fact that if the car was just on a lift the suspension is stretched. If it goes right onto the alignment machine after this the rear end may be a half inch higher than its normal resting spot and the measurement will be on spec for this higher ride height but be out when it returns back to its normal height. So if the alignment shop is doing a jack up compensation to set the alignment heads its going to be higher than normal. If they use a rolling compensation to set up the alignment heads that will not be a problem. But if they checked the suspension on a lift just prior to the alignment it may still be higher. We use a rolling compensation on all alignments but we also try to settle the suspension fully before pulling on the alignment machine. If I check the suspension or I am changing components I make sure I take the car on a drive that allows me to corner hard several times and usually try to brake hard a few times as well. Then I let the car sit for a few hours before I even pull it up on the alignment machine. This way the suspension should be fully returned to its normal rest position. If I have the car overnight I will let it sit until the next morning before performing the alignment. A few points I would ask of the place performing the alignment would be
1. Jack up or rolling compensation for the alignment heads?
2. Do they try to make sure the suspension is fully settled?
3. Do they perform all adjustments possible? If they are just setting front toe its not a full alignment on these cars.
Good Luck, Bernie
