Verifying crank case pressure or vacuum would be one test.
One crude easy test is to put a latex glove over oil filler pipe and see if it inflates or deflates at idle.
You might have a broken brake vacuum pipe allowing the brake vacuum pump to suck in air and over pressurizing the crank case. Or it could be that the brake booster have a leak internally creating the same problem with brake vacuum pump.
