My amateurish, shade tree take on this is that Saab pushed the 2.3 litre engine system to it's limits after 2005. The oily stuff gets fed up with the all the heat and pressure and wants out any way it can, like lava from a volcano. It will take the path of least resistance which can mean any seal or o-ring. The nearest exit will do. As the legendary Swedecar has mentioned in the past, Saab never quite got the PCV system right. Apart from deferring to more talented minds, I like the idea of an over sized oil filter and keeping the oil at the mid dipstick point. Maybe disconnect the battery and reset the ECU and with it the former owners driving karma. The 9-5 has a memory like an elephant and it drives you, not the other way around.
