Agree with the others that the look grows on you. I initially disliked the front--all the chrome around the headlights, but my car is silver and it sort of disappears. From some angles, I now actually like it, and it certainly has a more "aggressive" look from head on. I think the rear taillight and hatch design is actually a nice improvement, visually. I think the car's design was ahead of its time and despite being 12-13 years old, it has aged well and still manages to look reasonably current, IMHO.

While I get that we all want a car that is appealing to look at, what we spend most time looking at is the dash/interior, and I like the interior of the 2006+ much better. Apart from the door handle pulls wearing prematurely, I think the interior quality is better, and has a nicer, more modern design (particularly the speedo cluster as well as the dials and nobs). I very much appreciate having the OEM AUX-in for the stereo (some opinions vary on that front). As for seat leather -- my "sport" version (aka Aero package) with heated & ventilated seats (single-tone) are holding up perfectly with 109k.

Mechanically, I think others have made that point -- very similar but with a variety of improvements that continued to work out the kinks. As for headlights, my family has had several 2004 Aero wagons in addition to my 2006, all with xenons. I don't really have a strong opinion about whether the '06 is better or worse, I think it might be a wash.

I concur that the mileage is what should drive the decision.
