Aisin 55 valve body - Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Mon, 16 Apr 2018 20:13:16 In Reply to: Re: Tranny dipstick piece stuck in tube, Itsasaab, Mon, 16 Apr 2018 10:01:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had to chime in to defend the Aisin 55 =). Usually the valve body issues are found related to infrequent ATF replacement, very hard use, and/or high mileage. I posted on my experience with this a while back, and I'll link the thread.
My daughter has a 2006 wagon w. sport package. This car had incomplete maintenance records when I purchased it, and when I refreshed the suspension, all motor mounts, etc. I formed the opinion it had not been well maintained (but no sludge). Because of some shifting issues and a transmission error when very cold, I replaced the three Linear Solenoids in the Valve Body - transmission was not removed; all done in-car.
I attach a link. That thread references a PDF available online that discusses the AW 55 transmission, the error codes, and all.
It's been about 13K miles since then, and no recurrence of poor shifting, transmission errors, or codes. SAAB owners are fortunate that the valve body is fully accessible in our car - not so lucky for Volvo and Nissan owners. I expect this transmission will go many, many more miles.
Hope this helps
