Temperature dependence of tailgate and hood supports Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Tue, 24 Apr 2018 11:39:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So this winter, the tailgate shocks on my wagon went out - had to use half a 2x4 to rectify the situation as I did not want to try to mess with delicate plastic trim in it's delicate brittle -20C state... So now it is starting to warm up, and guess what? They work again.
The hood shock was also bad in the winter and is doing the same thing.
I think I will replace them all anyway, but as an engineer, I feel like I should measure the temperature at which the transition occurs, the mass of the tailgate, and do some calculations :-P
On a related note... everyone here claims 9-5's kill batteries but ours is on the same one it had when I bought the car 8 years ago!! Thought it was kaput in the winter during the worst cold snap, bought a replacement, still haven't put it in... the old one recovered as soon as temps were a bit better and is still going strong! I might pull it and use it in a c900 if it fits (have not checked that yet)...
