I'm with you on the connector issues. I too have a background in cables and connectors. I've always maintained that 90% of electrical issues in cars are mechanical. Corrosion, cracks due to thermal cycling, brush wear etc.
With this issue I carefully packed the contacts in the big ABS connector with conductive silver grease. The problem disappeared for three days but then came back today on startup after heat soak.
The charging system in this car is good. The battery was replaced this past April at 188k miles. The charging voltage is 14 VDC. I'm changing the alternator anyway when the subframe comes out for bushing replacement next week.
Again my question is: Can I use an ESP unit with last three numbers being 514 instead of 701 which is currently in the car. I want the dash lights OFF and no codes. My wife will NOT drive a car with dash lights on - period.
