Install a used TD-04 - more predictable for mechanic Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Wed, 25 Jul 2018 12:20:28 In Reply to: why not install a used TD-04?, Snowmobile [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 24 Jul 2018 15:43:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I would second the used TD04.
Partly because of your mileage, and partly because a shop will do this for you. When I did the cartridge on my 1999 SE, I found the exhaust turbine housing was "coked" (overheated oil turned to carbon) onto the center section, and I struggled mightily to get it apart without damaging anything. I had never done this before, but even an experienced mechanic can run into hidden time wasters like this. I later rebuilt a TD04 which did not have this issue, so maybe that 1999 was a unique case. The TD04 swap is well known, and with the right lines and adapters the job time will be more predictable.
Good luck !
