I think that is the best way to get it off. I use a 4' solid breaker bar and a 12 point socket. That lets me get a narrower angular range, but I still have to jack the car up quite high. That is the only way I have been able to remove that bolt. I've removed 6 of them now, and every time, I try it first with the impact wrench (easy, why not?) which has never worked...
I don't think I've ever snapped a bolt off with the breaker bar - you are relying on it being torqued more or less correctly. If the bolt snaps, it probably is in too tight and requires too much torque to remove for it's strength. If the impact could remove it, it would probably snap also in that situation... the advantage being that the impacts might break up corrosion such that it comes loose...
