there is a special tool you need to push the valve into the line.. otherwise it is a risky proposition.. Part of the problem is there isn't enough line after you cut the old valve off.. so not much wiggle room in that tight space...
I was going to do it myself last year .. using some rubber fuel line and clamps.. but then I chickened out.. and had my indy do it.. I already had the valve.. and he only charged me $100 to install.. well worth it..
The other option is to buy a new line.. which has the valve already secured to it.. The issue there.. is, that I believe you have to partially drop the fuel tank to replace the existing line... I believe when I researched.. the line w/valve connected was around $85 from eeuroparts...
