That is a good suggestion, especially if it is easy to apply into a banjo fitting. I didn't check back here in time and decided to try the kerosene approach which seems to have worked. It's just a little messy getting it into the hose, but it is cheap and readily available.
These hoses are not perfect but they are in better shape than the ones in the car. For $6/ea from the pick-n-pull, it seems like a no brainer. I don't think there was much crud in them and TBH, the old ATF was brown like engine oil, but there was almost none left after draining it out anyway, so the amount of contamination would not be too bad.
Amazes me that people don't take better care of their cars. This one had probably gone with no ATF change ever. Not sure the milage, but it was a 2007 sedan, so probably 200k +/-. Also a fram filter and green coolant... what a mess... also surprised the pick-n-pull didn't do a better job draining fluids!
