I finally changed mine out this morning. (Couldn’t find my deep 24mm socket last weekend when I changed the tires over to winter).
V6 version is much less of an ordeal. Took off the front tire, dropped the belt cover (4 screws), and it was easily accessed.
Electrical connector wasn’t the red slide but the GM-style with a single bayonet clip. Popped off easily once I snipped the wire tie. Fair amount of oil seeped out when I removed the connector.
New genuine Saab part screwed right in with an integral crush washer. Cleaned up the electrical connectors and wire-tied the wires to the sensor body to make sure it didn’t wander toward a pulley, and buttoned it all up.
Lost a bit of oil, but contained the mess pretty well thanks to yesterday’s New York Times. (Dropped the new sensor obviating the quick swap)
Sentimentally this was fun. While the 24mm socket is something I bought, the 1/2 inch drive 50 year old craftsman ratchet I used is one if the tools that I had from my dads service station. My brother and I worked at it as kids, and he sold it and retired after we were out of college. Most of the tools that he didn’t sell with the shop came to me, and I enjoy using them.
