Bobc -
On which car is this happening ? At least three possibilities I can think of: 1) ABS control rebuild was not successful . . . (hope it's not this); 2) bad wheel speed sensor or signal ring - Bernie (search forum) once said he'd never observed a sensor truly fail, while the 'tone ring' that generates the signal is aluminum and can get all busted up if the steel underneath rusts enough; and 3) Rear ABS wiring can fail at two main spots - the junctions inside the car or by damage as the wires travel from inside to outside and to the rear wheel sensors.
Well, maybe I just listed 5 things - but you tried to cross out #1, and you can probably skip a bad sensor (#2a), and you can visually inspect for square toothed tone rings (#2b) - especially on the front axles.
For #3a search on "ABS Junction Repair". The initial post guiding me was from Dano in Texas. I did this to one of the two 2006 SC's that I maintain for my daughters - the 'Christmas Tree Lights' have not reappeared so far (6 months and several thousand miles). This fault tends to be intermittent, and may disappear in winter if your floor stays dry enough.
For #3b - Has your indy shop used a Tech2 on it and can they see a bad sensor signal. The example I found was not intermittent. The owner who posted on another site (searching more broadly for ABS wiring fix) found severe damage to the under-body rear wiring (broken insulation and corroded wires). He at least had a constant fail mode to trouble shoot.
Hope this helps you find your bug.
