The Hirsch 280Hp and 305Hp upgrades are now fully warranty covered in Europe. And as a fact they don't damage a single thing. But you need to buy the car new with the upgrade installed, Hirsch no longer does upgrades used cars (Saab Performance).
I believe the reason for SAABUSA holding back is that both these upgrades require a sports supension, which lowers the car about 1 inch and that is quite a bit harder then the stock suspension. I believe that many US drivers would consider it too harsh, but without it, traction and handling problems are major with these stronger engines. On many US freeways this suspension would be rather uncomfortable.
I also think that in some US states, the Hirsch versions could not be sold cause the gas is of too low quality.
