It is just as Jim said. I had the ECU test the components through that very same test which Jim Blake mentioned on my Mom's 1990 900 n/a (5spd).

I got the procedure from the Chilton's 1983-1992 Car Care Manual, which is a hodge-podge of technical information covering nearly every vehicle sold in the U.S. during that time. I don't know where you'd go to get one, but I stumbled on mine in the discount section of a bookstore several years ago for $1.00, IIRC.

I can e-mail you or post the procedure for self-test, if you want. It has the ECU test the fuel pump, charcoal canister vent valve, injectors, throttle position switch, etc. Pretty cool, considering.
