Turbo Squealing when engine cold

I am having odd symptons with my 1990 900T that don't sound like anything I've seen posted before -- any thoughts or ideas?

When the car is cold I get a loud squealing (almost like a slipping belt, but louder and more high pitched) when the cars starts boosting. After the engine warms up it doesn't do this anymore. I still have great power, fast spool up and half way into the red. I am not blowing any smoke and everything seems great until the car cools down, then it's back. I don't get any symptoms when I start up the car and rev the engine, so I don't think its my harmonic balancer, and I don't think its a pulley since the problem goes away after the engine warms up.

I am wondering if the bearings in my turbo could be going, yet the boost is still strong and the exhaust is clean. The car is and autobox and has 149,500 miles on it. The sound really seems to match the spool up of the turbo. I've got a spare turbo that I've been wanting to put on (swap my Garret for a Mitsubishi), but I'm really not to keen on doing this right away, and if it's something else I've overlooked, I don't want to swap the turbo and find I still have the squeal.
