It was an easy job, about 1.5 hours on and off thanks to the tips on this site. I was pretty sure the starter was shot but was afraid to "take it off" without throughly troubleshooting the "no start" problem.
From load testing the cables to using the test receptable to bypassing the selenoid, everything pointed to the starter.
I thought replacement would be a bear because of the placement, but in the end, the job was very easy. It was nice not to have to lie under the car to change the starter (especially since it below freezing).
Thanks to all who have braved this task and passed on that knowledge to others.
