Bit of puzzler, becoming good friends with my Bentley manual for sure. 1990 SPG with EGR. Symptoms, upon start engine revs to 2k, then gradually comes down to idle and stalls immediately. I keep the revs up, and after a minute or two it doesn't stall but hunts wildly for another minute then levels out.
Car runs fine once warm, not the smoothest idle though, but runs fine. Idles a tad high 900ish RPMS when warm.
Tested and replaced the NTC. Coolant level is good.
Replaced the AIC (throwing parts at it)
Swapped out 3 AMMs, no change. I, for the heck of it, went through the Bentley testing procedure on my known-good AMM, and it tested good and within spec.
Here is the interesting part, the brand new Bosch AMM does not vibrate or make a clicking noise. I thought the old one was dead, so I replaced it. The wiring harness is getting 12 volts, and resistance on the new AIC is good. I noticed that if I unplug it when the engine is cold it DOESN'T STALL. But then of course the revs go up to 1500 RPM when warm.
However if I just turn off the car, plug the AIC back in (engine now warmer) and restart, idle is fine.
I am speculating that the ECU isn't talking to the AIC, I will measure the volts as per the Bentley manual from the ECU harness. But has anyone seen this before???
This board has been a great help over the years, I just pulled my SPG from storage after 6 years, and its been allot of help getting the car up and running (warm).
Thanks guys in advance!
