I have a pristine and original '89 SPG so I am very familiar with worries about payoff in case of total loss. I carry mainstream coverage and though I have collision -$500 deduct- it's about half of your $450 annually. (Ask some questions or raise your deduct to $500). I also own
a restored '57 Chev for which I carry a stated value policy. Generally speaking, stated value is for very good cars, locked storage, very low annual mileage, and basically show and club purposes only. Never for every day commuter cars. My suggestion for classic Saab owners is to look for a credible appraiser within the Saab collector community, such as ScanWest near me in Seattle, pay for a thorough appraisal, and put that on file with your insurer.
