You are definitely being paranoid. I use them all the time, and always have on all my c900 verts and never had an issue. Driven long distances at highway speeds.
The most critical thing to fitting them on properly is to retract the top with the latches closed, and then manually lift the crossbar a bit and tuck the headliner in off the top of the back seat. If you don't get the fabric out of the way, the boot won't fit properly. Take the driver's side panel and put the end against the front seatbelt housing with the back side of the panel about 4" inward from the rubber spoiler on the side of the car, and then pivot it into place sliding the rear tab into the channel in front of the rear spoiler. This technique is much easier than putting the rear tab in first and trying to clip the front. Do the same with the passenger side. Then put the center piece on by putting the rear tab in the channel and flipping it down on the two side panels (be sure not to pinch the rubber securing straps underneath the front edge) align the parts and snap them together. Then secure the front with the rubber straps. Open the trunk and be sure that the two dongles go beneath the leading edge and close the trunk. This shouldn't take anywhere near 10 minutes once you get the hang of it.
