I adjusted the latch itself. Loosened up the screw that holds it and moved the latch just a little each time until the hatch closed. Actually, I had the whole latching mechanism apart for cleaning and inspection. I have mine set up now where I hand close the hatch and as it meets the closed position I add just a bit of pressure and it locks into place.
