Just start up your radar. Check the classifieds here and C's list. I checked C's list almost daily in various Western Cities for 6 months before a nice SPG came up outside of Phoenix. After scores of emails and photo's back and forth (and another buyer who dropped out - or was dropped) I got a corrosion free '88 SPG with 124k on the odo. I bought sight unseen four years ago for 3 grand and had it shipped for $650. So I don't think your price range is inadequate. Get er done.
