Wow, that is interesting. Thanks tweetiedancer!
In the scenario that you described, was the vacuum leak from a vacuum line to the charcoal cannister, or from an intake pipe or something else entirely?
In my case, the check engine light is on in the instrument cluster anytime the car is running, and that to me + the poor gas mileage means "limp home mode." I ran the flashing light codes from the ECU test connector under the rear seat and got the codes that the engine was running lean, and that the TPS was at WOT. Yes the TPS only registers if it is closed or not, but I think the micro switch also indicates when it is all the way open as well, hence the three leads on the switch and the interior of it has a notch that changes the microswitch roller position when wide open.
This is not the later-style TPS that is a variable resistor inside the case like is used for LH 2.4.2
I have not yet found any large vacuum leaks, but I am still open to looking for them... I am just not sure where else to look, and I have not noticed my issue getting worse, just steadily poor gas mileage, check engine light with engine performance and behavior remaining the same.
