I haven't installed them, but it seems others have on the 9-5bb and seem to like them... that said, like you said, just because someone likes them does not mean they project properly... like in audio... sometimes people like music with the bass cranked up (or whatever), but just because they like it doesn't mean it is accurate or even good (or good for them!)... even though they often think it is more accurate when it is measurably not the case!
I think LEDs make more sense for turn signals... less current for contacts to fry, higher reliability (bulbs don't go out)... the latter is the negative for xenons though as they fade over time... 9-5 was available with HID xenons, and I would avoid those for the most part in favour of halogens... easier and cheaper to service, especially if you want to maintain a high level of brightness... so I can see the appeal of LEDs in contrast to that... if done right... which may not be easy!
