At what point has rust made my car unsafe? Posted by CBS [Email] (#969) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CBS) on Tue, 28 Feb 2017 15:40:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'88 SPG, 135k on the odometer, driven some Winters in rust belt.
It seems like the holes where the axles go through are in decent shape. But the unibody frame on the passenger side is completely gone -- I can see wires where it curves under from the firewall. The floor had a 2' x 2' hole in it that I repaired a couple years ago. Underneath it's a mess on passenger side. One of the gas tank straps rusted away before I noticed it (replaced those). Still runs straight. I'm thinking of selling it per "agreement" with wife (don't worry I have another from AZ!), but will absolutely not sell it if there is any question of safety. Unless of course I had a trustworthy person who would use if for parts. Any advice welcome. Maybe more things to look for?
