I think you'll be needing to see the 'referee'. I converted a 85 8V to a 87na 16V. I visited the referee and it was difficult. The only reference info he had was a Chilton book that gave him very poor info. I had to write up a 6 page report with photo copies of the factory manual to document the 87 engine had all the emissions equipment required in 1987. My classic 900's get a going over. For one thing nothing else looks like the backwards engine. Then there's the need to verify the ignition timing. The most recent issue was with my friend who bought my '89T'. The smog guy couldn't find the timing marks. Said the book shows the marks to be at the pulley. He moved the AC hose to see the pulley. Couldn't find the marks so sent my friend away. A couple days later there was a whoosh . The belt cut thru the relocated AC hose and evacuated the AC. The friend drove around this winter the open hose. He went for AC service last week and the compressor was frozen. Doesn't answer your question
