In my experience in California, there's first a visual inspection to verify nothing's funny or odd in the way of aftermarket or incorrect equipment. And if that passes, next up is the tailpipe test with dynamometer. And then lastly, there's the gas cap test where they pull off your gas cap, screw down their own test cap and -slightly- pressurize the gas tank to see if there's any loss of pressure.
Based on that first phase where the tech guys are crawling over your engine and consulting their (maybe correct) tech manuals, I doubt a T5'd c900 will make it past the visual. They'll probably send me away when I'm no longer sporting a distributor or ignition wires.
I'm curious to see what Justin comes up with. The T5 conversion option looks more and more attractive to me every day (for my 87T). My 92NA has breezed through the last few smog tests so well it's almost funtioning as an air-cleaner machine for the state of CA.
