Steven,
Thank you for your response!
Under original SAAB engine conditions, the ignition timing is at 16DBTDC and spark plug gap could be at .028". Your OEM ignition distributor employs a retard mechanism which adjusts(Reduces) the set timing by 5 degrees. Under maximum OEM charging/boost pressures your 16DBTDC ignition timing will be reduced to 11DBTDC.
When under a higher charging pressure(Via APC Modification, Etc.) the higher the resistance within the combustion chamber which contains the spark plug. A reduction to .024" allows for proper spark production under a higher resistance and the slight reduction in timing(15DBTDC)provides a higher charging pressure and limits APC charging "Fluctuation".
Hoping this could be of some help and please reply with any additional questions!
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SDI
