I'll chime in as I've done this several times. I would take out the shifter assembly -- this is an opportunity to remove both seats and pull out the carpet for a target of opportunity. So, the overall job gets more involved, but the results also go with that effort.
Once you rotate the shifter over to take off the bottom and separate it, you can try to get out the key tumbler mechanism and put it in the other one you have. I'd take out the reverse lock, and lube up the mechanism, you don't need to go crazy on it, just make it operate smoothly, then put it back together.
Clean the carpets, get out the $0.73 that has dropped down in the console and hopefully once it's all together, the shifter works and the key turns as before. I'd not put the seats back in until you are satisifed with the operation.
Good luck!
