Two weeks ago, my 89 Vert was serenely cruising about 55 to the coast and a birthday party, when a horrendous clatter emanated from beneath the floor. A puddle of gear-lube formed after I reined her in at the roadside. Now, this is an automatic Borg-Warner rig, but there was NO prior sign of trouble except some upshifting delays when cold. I have to assume the differential is reduced to shavings, but so far, I'm too chickens--t to look in. My question to the more experienced: can the repair be done without engine removal?
