Sometimes the first clutch press feels a little funny after my 900 has been sitting for a week or two. But it's firm by the second pedal push.
I'd say air in the line for your case, just as the obvious place to start.
The clutch bleeding process has sometimes been a breeze for me. But sometimes it's been a bear.
The last one I did involved pushing fluid both ways through the circuit (pressurizing from the reservoir to the slave and then reverse bleeding with pressure from the slave bleed nipple pushing fluid up to the reservoir).
And this back and forth wasn't enough for a solid effect on the clutch so I resorted to a method from my days in 99s where I connected a clear tube from the clutch bleed nipple up to the reservoir, then cracked the nipple and pumped the pedal while watching fluid and air bubbles travel up from the slave to the reservoir. When the bubbles stopped, I finger-tightened the nipple and checked the clutch feel.
