Buying a car out of state-- tags? Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Mon, 1 May 2017 20:17:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi All, I'M BAAACCCCKKK and, better yet, I'll soon be back in a C900. I'm scheduled to purchase an '89 900S in VA next weekend. Providing the car is as advertised in the classifieds and as represented by the seller by phone, I'll be tooling my way through and across the Appalachians and back towards my home in WI.
I've arranged with my insurance co to provide coverage in the near term, prior to registering the car in WI when I get home. The seller has assured that the title is clear and I've prepped a bill-of-sale. My remaining concern is with tags. My inclination is to pull the plates from my present ride, take them with me on the flight to VA and slap them on (Plan A). That sounds fine, as long as I don't have an encounter with Officer Friendly on the way home. My insurance co and the WI DMV have been useless WRT alternative, perhaps more legal approaches, I'm wondering if anyone in the Saabnet might provide either pointers or reassurance re Plan A or propose a Plan B.
Thanks in advance for any useful bits of feedback, it's nice to be home (soon).
