No CEL was evident until the misfire and noise associated with the plug evacuation then lit up the dash.
The center plug on the front bank of three was finger tight without a crush on the washer. It was next to blow out. I wonder about the back ones, but you can't get to them without taking off the intake manifold.
I remember a long time ago, the service advisor said "oh there is a valve cover leak" so I asked where it was, he pointed to a corner that looked barely wet, I'm thinking this was a way to get some dough out of us. Now that I think of it, he was probably reading the "notes" from the mechanic where oil was present around the coil on the bad cylinder, from the exhaust gases / oil creeping upwards. This is not visible when the top cover is installed, had that been off, it would have been clear as day that something was amiss.
Gravel monkeys. A Grease Monkey is waaaaaaaay more experienced than a Gravel Monkey. Wish they had a Grease Monkey at the Toy dealer instead of the Gravel type.
The book shows 25 hours for an engine remove and replace. Good lord.
