The shock is attached at the top by at least one nut. It's usually 17 mm. Look down and see if it's double-nutted.
Grab the shaft tightly with a vise grips to keep it from rotating and remove the nut(s) from above.
Doing this will let you practice getting into that space to secure the top nut on your new shock.
Suggest getting a shock tool that will fit the top of your new shocks to make it easier to tighten the top nut without damaging the shock. A ratcheting combo wrench of the appropriate size will also make installation less troublesome.
