If you take the time to read the book Enola Gay, you'll learn that the training missions for the 509th from Wendover Field would go to Havana, Cuba. They brought back shipments of rum and cigars for the boys in the Great Salt Desert outside Wendover, a place on earth that wouldn't be there unless Tibbets had hand picked it for it's desolation, so they could work in secrecy.
Makes me want some Cohibas and a couple gallons of Havana Club for our next trip out. Which brings up, the Landjet came back to life last night. After several passes of compression testing, and borescope examination, I think we will be OK. The #4 took on some detonation, probably from the passes with the 100 octane gas, with 100% water in the water injection system. Or, just the architecture of the intake manifold. I'm going to an 8 heat range plug, hope it runs on that without fouling. I told my wife we only needed 8 more miles in the car for two more Bonneville records, so weather permitting, the dream is still alive.........
