If the previous owner did not apply anti-seize compound, you will likely have to remove the downpipe to get the old sensor out. Pretty much impossible to generate the required torque with it in the car. I almost always end up destroying the old O2 sensor in this situation. Often takes cutting the top off and using a really strong 6-point socket on a 1/2 inch socket wrench to get it out (heat helps). Avoid using a 12-point socket - you don't want to round out the bolt corners or you'll be in a world of pain.
Yup, if you can't get the signal to fluctuate (no matter what, it's
either a bad O2 sensor or a bad AMM.
