Great, then crap Part III - Out of Options Posted by Jawerdna [Email] (#2022) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Jawerdna) on Thu, 22 Jun 2017 14:32:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks to all who have offered help to me on this ongoing issue with my 86 SPG. Not for lack of trying, but I'm still stuck. I completed the electrical tests for the 2.2 shown in the Bentley and all tests for grounds, ohms, volts, etc. all tested correctly.
I sourced an exhaust elbow with a functioning O2 sensor, ran through Notnoel's excellent AMM adjustment instructions and began to get fluctuating voltage from the O2 sensors signal wire and ground, however, it never got up to .9 volts and stayed between .1 & .7 volts no matter how much I adjusted the AMM's pot screw. I gave up cranking it up at 798 ohms (started right at 380). As I continue to adjust it, the coughing/choking doesn't seem to get any better. Should I go higher?
Now, I've replaced the following with known good parts:
ignition coil
throttle position sensor
ECU - correct for '86
plugs & wires
Distributor
Cap & Rotor
Fuel pump & prepump
Fuel Filter
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel injectors
AMM - reman'd by injection labs
coolant temp sensor
Alternator
Ignition Amplifier
I asked this once before, but since I believe I'm finally completely out of components to test and/or replace, could it be a clogged catalytic converter??? I'm told this is rare, but I have no other parts I can think of that would cause choking/coughing only when the engine is warmed up.
If I can't get anywhere with this thing, look out for an '86 SPG with a ton of new parts available in the classifieds.....
Thanks!
