Here is what works for checking front mount..... There are 3 (front/left/right). The only ones I've ever had let go were the hydraulic front ones. They manifested themselves as terrible solid "CLUNKS" when accelerating thru 1st, shifting to 2nd at a reasonable pace (scary!). I verified the front had broken by opening the hood, and looking from the driver's seat to the front of the motor, with the parking brake on, in 1st gear and (with some gas) let the clutch partially out - like I was leaving a stop sign. The front of the motor lifts up about 3/4", but is held in place by the steel bracket around the motor mount. Then when you let up on the gas/clutch, it "CLUNKS" back down into place. Reasonably easy fix, can be around $100 for new mount (but shop with the sponsors!).
I don't know how to isolate the left or right ones if they go bad, but there must be an easy way to tell. OR, it could be something else, but I have no other suggestions. Vern
