The timing marks on the flywheel of a 5-speed can be a bit hard to find.
Usually they get a patina of rust that blends in with the rest of the rust on the flywheel. If you have the plastic cover off, a little bit of steel wool or fine sandpaper will clean up the area on the rim of the flywheel around the marks and a dab of white paint at 16 deg BTDC will make the timing mark pop out under the light.
Pulling the hood off makes it easier to do timing unless you're one of those lucky people who's young and has a spine as flexible as a cat's.
